Online Security Updates

Below are links to the latest updates we routinely send our Online Banking customers about a variety of online security topics.

National Internet Safety Month

June is National Internet Safety Month, which is used to raise awareness of internet dangers and highlight the need for education about online safety. Below are a few reminders on how to stay safe online:

  • Use strong passwords, at least 15 characters, random and unique to each account. Consider using a password manager to automatically generate, store, and fill in passwords for you.
  • Turn on multifactor authentication (MFA), which provides you with an extra layer of security. Enable it on any account that offers it, especially your email, social media, and financial accounts.
  • Update software when devices, apps, or software programs notify you that updates are available. Install them as soon as possible. Updates fix security risks to better protect your data.
  • Recognize and report phishing messages, which are designed to trick you into downloading malware (malicious programs) or giving personal information to a criminal. Do not click or engage – report it and delete the message.
  • Keep personal information safe by not revealing sensitive information on social media sites, or to unknown people over the phone, or by text messages. Things like your pet’s name or high school mascot are examples of information that a hacker may use to verify your identity, or to recover a forgotten password.
  • Monitor your accounts regularly for fraudulent transactions. Alert your financial institution immediately if you believe you are a victim of fraud.

By following these tips, you can help protect yourself from falling victim fraud. If you believe that you are a victim of any type of scam, report it immediately by contacting the company or government agency that the cybercriminal is impersonating. If you entered personal data, change passwords for accounts you believe may have been compromised.
